Step 2: Select Connect ModeOff Line – Review File - Select when review of previously saved IQ configuration or datalogger files is required without connecting to an IQ actuator.
On Line - Serial IrDA Connect - Select when connecting directly with an IQ actuator using a serial IrDA adapter. When on line, the actuator configuration can be viewed and changed. Online diagnostics and datalogger analysis is also available. Note that it is also possible to review previously saved files when working on line (as above).
It is essential that any Windows or other IrDA drivers installed on the PC are disabled prior starting an On Line Serial IrDA session.
Once selected the IrDA /PC adapter type and com port must be configured:
IrDA - PC Adaptor Type Select the adaptor type.
Port Select the COM port the IrDA - PC adapter is physically connected to
(usually COM 1) from the dropdown list.Note. Rotork are unable to provide technical support on Rs232/IrDA adaptors. Contact the adaptor manufacturer.

Modem - If remote connection via PC modem and cellular phone to the IQ is required, select the modem radio button.Note. The cell phone used for connection to the IQ must support IrDA communication and data transfer. The cellular service provider must support data transfer. Refer to cell phone manufacturer and cellular service provider for information. Rotork cannot provide technical support for cellular phone operation.
Once selected the Modem com port must be configured. For an external modem this will be the port it is connected to. For an internal modem this will be its allocated, "virtual" port.
Back to IndexStep 3: Log In
Auto Log in - Auto login will, for future log ins, automatically carry out steps 1 to 3 using previously entered settings without user input. It is important to note that the Log In page must be visited at the beginning of an Insight session even when auto login is checked.
Log In - When steps 1 and 2 are complete click the Log In control.
If Off Line – Review File was selected in step 2, insight will not attempt to connect to an IQ, and the dialogue will report “Connect Mode: OFFLINE”. Return to Main Menu and select a IQ insight function from the menu. The required configuration file (.ucf) or datalogger file (.dfg) as appropriate can be selected via the page “load” control.
If On Line - Serial IrDA Connect or USB IrDA Connect was selected in step 2, Insight will attempt to establish communication with the connected IQ. Status will be reported. Once communication is established a dialogue will inform the user. Establishing communication will take approximately 10 seconds. Click on the page Main Menu control and proceed with the Insight session.
Modem - If remote connection via PC modem and cellular phone to the IQ was selected in Step 2, the modem control panel will appear. The cellphone must have established IrDA communication with the actuator before attempting to dial. For cell phone communication with the IQ actuator, refer to publication E170E.
The following entries have been proved to work with different modem and system types and are therefore used as default settings. Default settings provide a recommended set-up to optimise communication, however, it may be necessary to consult modem instructions for specific settings.
